Pontivy — 70 Miles
You may have to suspend your disbelief for this one, but legend has it that Pontivy was founded in 685 AD by an English monk, whose name was Ivy. He built a wooden bridge across the Blavet River, and so the town was called, Pont d’Ivy.
To get a sense of its medieval origins, head to Place du Martray, which used to be Pontivy’s main square. The main site in Pontivy is the castle, a short walk from the town center, which was built in 1485. True to it medieval heritage, the streets surrounding the castle are lined with beautiful half-timbered houses, as well as shops and restaurants.
