Northern Brittany, France

Brittany is also famous for its cuisine, especially seafood. Coquilles Saint-Jacques and Tourteaux (spider crabs) originated here, and so did crepes and galettes. Galettes are crepes, but they’re made from buckwheat flour and usually filled with ingredients such as ham, cheese and egg, while crepes usually have sweeter fillings.

Brittany is also one of the regions where you’ll see as many beer options on the menu as wine. Bretons are also big on apple cider, which is alcoholic and available in sweet and dry versions.

This tour covers 257 miles and 7 towns in the northern part of the region. In a second itinerary, we’ll cover the western portion.

If 7 towns sounds like too much, you can cut the trip down to about 150 miles by dropping Pontivy and Moncontour. If you’d like to be even more selective, we would recommend focusing your trip just on Dinan, St. Malo, and Mont St. Michele.
