Rene Magritte

I am not positing that Magritte was an unknown, far from it. Many of his images are iconic.

Here are a few:

A Pipe with the words beneath it “This is not a Pipe”
“Not To Be Reproduced…”  a painting with a man looking it a mirror and seeing his own back
“The Son of Man”, depicting a man with a bowler hat, his face unseen because of the large green apple. About this painting Magritte says…what it is we see makes us want to see what we don’t see.
“The Rape”, done in 1941 is an image once seen is never to be forgotten
My favorite is “Perspicacity”, done in 1936.  To me it is the definition of brilliance.

We could go on and on about his politics (socialist), his writing (magnificent), and his life style with wife Georgette.
