My first choice (in no special order) is Tenor Saxophonist Eric Alexander.
Eric is not only a player but a composer and jazz historian as well. He began as a classical musician studying alto saxophone at Indiana University with Eugene Rousseau in 1986. He switched to tenor, probably because he liked the bigger sound, and that has been his main instrument ever since. His music is certainly avant-garde, but extremely approachable and easy to appreciate. With great respect for those that came before him, Eric is current, exciting, and has a sound that’s as full as the great tenor players of the past. His discography is enormous and I am certain there is something here you will enjoy.
