Racy Ladies of 1920’s Blues

The sexiest sultriest songstresses and their very blue tunes

When a beautiful woman sings about her ‘sugar bowl’ and asks you to ‘put a hot dog between her roll’… well, to quote Mick Jagger, “what can a poor boy do”…

These four woman can bring a man to his knees with desire or to a full blown belly laugh when he hears their outrageous lyrics. Either way, these are some of the most remarkably ‘creative’ lyrics in American popular music.

Remember — these were done long before the liberating 1960s or the first full wave of feminism.

These four women were all great singers and musicians. They wandered into these ‘salty songs’ the way Willie Sutton wondered into banks…because that’s where the money was. They deserve credit and applause for the expertise in style and their marvelous talent. Enjoy a good laugh at the lyrics of these ‘red hot mamas’.
