Poetry: Neil Kelliher

Boxes

A world of boxes, no lids, tall sides
Walls
Between us, between others, between
Ourselves.

We build boxes
We keep boxes
To hide
In.

They keep things in
They keep us in
They keep you
Out.

My world of boxes, no doors, no keys
Just walls
Between days, between friends, between Dreams.

These boxes are mine, not yours
Hands off my boxes
Go make your own
Boxes.

If you get in
Then you’ll see me
I won’t be safe
Anymore.

It’s my world
These are my boxes
They protect
Me.

They’re my boxes.
They’re my friends.
I’m gonna keep ‘em
‘Til it all ends.

Peep in
Keep in,
Don’t try to see in.

Look out,
Stay out
You gotta keep out.

They’re my walls
They’re my boxes
Nah Nah Nah Na Nah Nah
Hey, Hey, Goodbye.

Hey,

Hey,
Please
Stay.
