Northern Brittany, France

Cancale — 10 Miles

Oysters are the rage here — Cancale has been involved in their cultivation for hundreds of years. Today they’re grown by individual farmers who produce more than 15,000 tons per year. Not surprisingly, Cancale has numerous restaurants that specialize in these molluscs, and the best ones are located around the port, La Houle.

Cancale is divided into two areas — the main town and the port, with a cobbled street connecting the two. Start with a stroll around the harbor, where from the pier you can see the oyster beds stretching out over 7 kilometers. Then head on to the main town, a traditional fishing village with houses bunched around the Church of Saint-Meen.
