Emotional Stability
Emotionally stable individuals tend to be secure, confident, and even-tempered. They’re not over-reactive and generally maintain a positive demeanor. They take things in stride and are good at getting along with others, even those who are difficult.
People who are high on neuroticism, the opposite of emotionally stable, are anxious and absorbed with negative emotions. They’re argumentative and tend to overreact, often expressing themselves through complaints, criticisms, contempt, and defensiveness. They’re also more prone to irrational thoughts and misinterpretation, and so can take an off-hand remark or a joke as a personal affront. Having an emotionally unstable partner means one has to work hard to make their relationship work.
