Dinan — 34 Miles
Dinan is one of the best preserved towns in Brittany and is filled with artists, sculptors, engravers, bookbinders, glassblowers and other interesting artisans. The structures were built when property taxes were based on the square footage of your ground floor. So the houses have small ground floors, then expand outward into upper floors, with roofs that nearly touched the houses on the opposite side of the street.
The main attraction here is the town itself — it’s narrow cobble stone streets are bordered by half-timbered houses, art galleries, restaurants, and craft shops. The best part is the Place des Merciers, and just off this plaza is the Rue de la Cordonnerie, a pedestrian street. The port is also a great place to visit, where the quay is lined with waterside restaurants and shops.
