Outrageous Tasting Menus

Joël Robuchon, MGM Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

French chef Joël Robuchon is best known for Paris’ Jamin, considered by some to be the greatest restaurant in all of history — that is one hell of a claim to fame. Beautifully appointed, there are only 17 tables, but at the prices they charge, not many customers are needed. The dress code is described as business formal, whatever that means, but they do say that jackets are optional.

At the top of the list in this Las Vegas restaurant is the tasting menu that includes 16 courses, called the Degustation Menu, which will run no less than 4 hours from start to finish. They do offer more reasonably priced options with a more manageable number of courses, but if you decide to go here, why go economy class?

The Degustation tasting menu costs about $435 per person, and upgrades on courses don’t seem to be offered. You can do wine pairings if you like, at three different pricing options — $295, $595 and $995 per person.

So, adding up the basic meal along with wine pairings, the total price can range from $730 to $1,430 per person, again without the tip and the 8% tax. If you happen to go with your significant other, you’re in for about $3,000 — that’s for a single meal.
