Next Up…Ida Cox
Ida Cox, affectionately known as the Uncrowned Queen of the Blues, was born in 1886, or if you believe her side of it, in 1888. The uncertainty of her birth date coincides with the number of her marriages, which still remains unknown, and the number of groups she traveled with, which also is up for discussion.
What is known for certain is that Ida could sing, dance, and bring an audience to it’s feet. She was a brilliant vaudeville performer for over 20 years. Owing to the bawdiness of early vaudeville it is no surprise to hear her strutting her One Hour Mama
