Your practitioner may gently move or twirl the needles or apply heat or mild electrical pulses. Again, you’re likely not to feel much, if anything. For the duration of the session, about 20-30 minutes, you lie on the table with low lighting and soft music playing — pretty much like you’re getting a massage. Once the session is completed, the needles are removed and off you go, feeling pretty good.
We should mention that acupuncture is not a one-time cure-all. Depending on the severity of your condition, you can expect 1-2 treatments per week for 3-4 seeks, followed by a monthly maintenance schedule. Furthermore, not everyone responds to acupuncture. If your symptoms don’t begin to improve within a few weeks, acupuncture may not be right for you. And even if it does work for you, don’t stop whatever else you’re doing, such as taking medications, without speaking to your doctor.
