The Island of Corsica: Part 1

There’s a lot to explore throughout Corsica and the only way is by car. The terrain is rugged, much like Italy’s, and while that can make for some challenging driving, it also makes for spectacular scenery. It’s well known for it’s beaches, but Corsica is also about incredible panoramic views, miles of stunning coastline, and charming rustic villages perched on cliffs.

We’ve set up three itineraries, covering different geographic regions. Although the island is not that large — only about 140 miles from tip to tip — there’s much to see here. We used Ajaccio as the home base, since it’s centrally located from north to south, and it’s the capital of Corsica and so large enough to have all kinds of accommodations. Besides, it’s a very nice destination in its own right.

As we recommend for all our travel guides, load up each of the destinations in your GPS and scout out restaurants for each town (trip advisor and yelp are great resources) before you arrive in Corsica, and print out this itinerary so you have a hard copy to take with you. Again, while you might not fall in love with every town on these tours, there’s likely to be a few that will make the trip worthwhile.
