Racy Ladies of 1920’s Blues

Julia Lee…

Julia Lee was born in Boonville, Missouri, and was raised in Kansas City. She began her musical career around 1920, singing and playing piano in her brother George Lee’s band. She was known as a “blues musician, and a dirty blues musician, probably because of her songs, “snatch and grab it” and “king size papa.” But her most famous tune was  certainly the harmless sounding “spinach song”. It was quite a hit.  Give it a listen.
