March by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin (3 volumes)

John Lewis is a true American Hero. From his roots as the child of an Alabama share cropper, to a leader in the fight for Civil Rights, and on to his present role as U S Representative from Georgia’s fifth Congressional district. From a small segregated school house to the 1963 March on Washington; from beatings at the hands of State Troopers to being awarded the Medal of Freedom from the first African-American president, John Lewis has worked non violently for equality and respect for all people for over 60 years.

In this three volume autobiography, John Lewis and co writer Andrew Aydin, along with artist Nate Powell, tell the story in the genre of the graphic novel. It is truly compelling and heart felt. But more importantly it is designed to be read by young people, therefore, the graphic novel format. Illustrated in black and white, the books carry a sense of gravitas and immediacy. Its a story of hope and triumph, opening the doors to our history for generations of young people and those people yet to come.
