During the latter half of the 20th century NASCAR was in its heyday. Numbers were huge at the tracks and the sport was finding a loyal audience on Television. Although ticket prices were high, many folks came from miles away — the campers and RVs could be seen parking days before the race.
All was good in NASCAR land, until it wasn’t. Attendance is down, TV ratings are down, tracks have been downsized. Longtime sponsors have left the sport. When 5-hour Energy decided to end its 14-race sponsorship of champion driver Martin Truex Jr., his winning race team folded.
